Nicolasa thus was about 8 years older than Ponciano and lived next to or very near to the house of Juan Longoria. Octaviano LONGORIA²⁴²⁵ was born on 17 August 1871 in Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He died on 13 January 1931 at the age of 59 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. His mother, Francisca Garcia, died when he was very young. His father remarried, to Encarnacion Ysaguirre, but Octaviano could not get along with his stepmother. In 1887, he ran away to Nuevo Laredo and found a job as a clerk in a combination dry goods and grocery store. Before long, Octaviano opened his own grocery store. Later, he became a beer distributor for the Cuauhtemoc brewery from Monterrey. When the United States declared Prohibition, Octaviano opened an ice plant to supply ice to all the bars that were springing up in Nuevo Laredo to satisfy the needs of the thirsty Texans. Since the bars took in dollars, Octaviano then started a currency exchange house to convert the dollars to pesos. This led him also to open a bank to handle all the cash and to satisfy the credit requirements of his customers. Some of the loans were collateralized with ranch lands, and when the loans went bad, Octaviano started acquiring the ranch lands. He then built a mill that made cattle feed from cottonseed and built plants to refine the cottonseed oils. His factory complex, called Industrias Unidas, produced cooking oil, lard, and laundry soap. He also established real estate operations and eventually built an impressive building to house his Banco Longoria. Octaviano was the founder of the multi-million dollar Longoria empire of northern Mexico.

Despite his huge successes, Octaviano suffered from depression, and finally committed suicide by shooting himself in January 1931. Parents: Octaviano LONGORIA and Francisca GARCIA.
