Alonso de ESTRADA. Parents: Luis SAAVEDRA de Guzman and Marina de ESTRADA.

Alonso de ESTRADA was born about 1470 in Ciudad Real, Castile, Spain. He died in 1531 in New Spain. Some sources claim that Alonso de Estrada was the natural (illegitimate) son of the Catholic King, Ferdinand, through the King's liaison with Luisa de Estrada. Other sources claim that even Estrada himself boasted of his royal pedigree and there seemed to be a widespread acceptance of this pedigree by much of the local populace at the time. Lending some support to these claims is the fact that Alonso de Estrada was obviously in the favor of King Ferdinand II, the Catholic King, who appointed him to several positions in his monarchy, culminating in Alonso's appointment in 1523 to be the Royal Treasurer in New Spain.

More recent research by Jose Antonio Esquibel has uncovered compelling evidence to Alonso de Estrada's true pedigree. Esquibel presented the results of his research in a report titled "The Paternal Ancestry of Don Alonso de Estrada, Tesorero y Gobernador de Nueva Espana, and the Revised Genealogy of the Sosa Albornoz Family" in a Genealogical Journal (Vol. IV, 1998) of the Society of Hispanic and Ancestral Research, or SHHAR.
