However, it does not appear as if that proposed marriage ever took place. The evidence points to Micaela Fernandes marrying her true love, Sebastian Botello, instead.

A marriage between Sebastian Botello and Michaela Fernandez had first been proposed and a marriage investigation conducted on December 26, 1681, but their marriage apparently did not occur until mid-1683 or later because a statement by Sebastian Botello was included in a subsequent marriage investigation (IMIG #2-4) for himself and Michaela Fernandez on July 30, 1683; that statement by Sebastian Botello noted that "he had not co-habitated with Micaela Fernandez, and that while he was absent in Cerralvo, her brother Captain Gregorio Fernandez tried to contract a new marriage for her with Joseph Fernandez (or Hernandez) Nagas, but she did not want to marry him. She only wanted to marry Sebastian Botello."

Thus, there was a new marriage investigation for Michaela Fernandez only about one month after her proposed marriage to Joseph Hernandez Nagas.
