Maria DE LA GARZA. I am showing two different Maria de la Garzas as daughters of Miguel de la Garza and Gertrudis de Renteria. The first Maria de la Garza is married to Juan de Villarreal while the second Maria de la Garza is married to Pedro de Elizondo. They may very well be the same person but I have not found anything to indicate that she was widowed and then remarried. Because it was common to include Maria as the first name of a daughter it is possible that there were two different Maria de la Garzas, each with a different middle name. Until I can determine definitively whether they were the same person I am choosing to show them as sisters both named Maria de la Garza. Parents: Capt. Miguel DE LA GARZA FALCON and Gertrudis de RENTERIA (aka Gertrudis de Sepulveda).

Maria DE LA GARZA died before April 8, 1684. She was a natural daughter of Elena de la Garza but it is not known if she had the same father as her sister Juana de la Garza. Also, there is an inconsistency in marriage investigation #9-4 [showing Sebastian de Gumendio married to Elena de la Garza, daughter of Elena de la Garza] and marriage investigation #38-22 [showing Sebastian Peres Gumendio married to Elena de la Garza, mother of Elena de la Garza]. Since both Juana and Maria are indicated to be illegitimate children I am assuming that Sebastian Peres Gumendio was married to the elder Elena de la Garza, and that their daughter Elena Perez (aka Elena de la Garza) was the natural mother of both Juana and Maria. Parents: Elena PEREZ (aka Elena de la Garza).

Maria (Bartola?) DE LA GARZA Perez. The Indice de Casamientos de la Familia Longoria (reproduced from the original Frank Cushman Pierce Collection held by the Brownsville Historical Association Resource Center), page 4, shows the parents of Juana Longoria as being Marcelino Longoria and Bartola de la Garza. I have made the assumption that Bartola de la Garza is the same person as the Maria de la Garza who married Marcelino Longoria on May 18, 1801, in Matamoros. Parents: Laurencio DE LA GARZA and Josefa PEREZ.
