Pedro Flores, the original assignee of Porcion 77, refused to take possession of his assigned tract because it was on the north side of the Rio Grande and he wanted a tract on the south side. Because Captain Juan Jose Hinojosa of Reynosa considered Pedro Flores to be lazy and because Pedro Flores was known to have stated his desire to leave the settlement, the Captain decided against giving Pedro Flores possession of any tract. Dionicio Ramirez then requested that he be given possession of Porcion 77 instead of his assigned Porcion 78 because his mother, the widow of an original settler, already had livestock grazing there. Permission was granted and Dionicio Ramirez offically took possession of Porcion 77 on May 20, 1768. Porcion 77 was never confirmed by the Texas Legislature but was confirmed by the Texas Court of Civil Appeals. Porcion 78, which had originally been assigned to Dionicio Ramirez, was confirmed by the Texas Legislature under the name of Dionicio Ramirez even though actual possession of Porcion 78 was granted to Dionicio's brother Yldefonso Ramirez.
