Romana VILLARREAL Ramirez was born about 1866. The 1880 Census shows her age as 16, indicating she was born in 1864. However, since Celso was listed before her in the "Inventario de la Casa del Finado Don Gregorio Villarreal", my belief is that Celso was older than Romana. Celso's gravemarker indicates he was born in 1864. It appears to me that the 1880 Census reversed their ages and that Celso was 16 in 1880 and Romana was 14. Romana's inheritance from her father Gregorio Villarreal consisted of the following:
1/7 of 5 sitios in "La Encantada", or about 3163.14 acres
1/7 of 1 sitio in "El Panal", or about 632.63 acres
1/7 of 3 cordeles in the upper part of Porciones 93, or about 189.79 acres
1/7 of 3 cordeles in the lower part of Porciones 93, or about 189.79 acres
1/7 of 52 varas in "Las Anacuas", or about 65.79 acres

Possibly, Romana was raised by her maternal aunt Eufracia Ramirez and her husband Francisco Solis Hinojosa, who was named Romana's "tutor" in the partition of the estate of her parents, Gregorio Villarreal and Maria Ysidora Ramirez. On January 17, 1894, Romana and her husband sold 250 acres in the "La Encantada" and "Encino del Poso" tracts to Yrinea Villarreal and the heirs of Juan Longoria. Parents: Gregorio VILLARREAL Garza and Maria Ysidora RAMIREZ.

Rosa VILLARREAL. Parents: Jose VILLARREAL and Dominga ABREGO.

Ruben VILLARREAL. Parents: Jose Maria VILLARREAL and Natividad SANCHEZ.

Sabas VILLARREAL. Parents: Macario VILLARREAL and Gregoria SOLIS.

Sabas VILLARREAL Garza was born about 1811. The 1860 Census indicated he was 49 years old. Amazingly, the 1880 Census listed his age as 50. I believe the 1860 Census is more likely to be correct. On January 25, 2004, I spoke with Miguel Villarreal who said oral history provided by a relative in La Grulla said that Sabas was a brother of Gregorio and Yrinea. Miguel has a copy of a document which states "en certera" [with certainty] that Sabas, Gregorio, Yrinea, Antonio, Petra and Hilario were siblings.

The deed from Macario Villarreat et al to Ponciano Longoria states that Sabas Villarreal is the deceased father of Macario Villarreal and Jesus Maria Villarreal. A copy of the deed is in the possession of Odilia Longoria. Parents: Ignacio VILLARREAL Elizondo and Manuela de la GARZA.

Spouse: Isabel RAMIREZ. Sabas VILLARREAL Garza and Isabel RAMIREZ were married. The Seabury Papers show that Sabas Villarreal and Isabel Ramirez had five children: Macario, Aniseto, Jesus Maria, Encarnacion and Calixta Villarreal. Of these five children, Seabury had information only on Calixta, indicating that she married Saturnino R. Fuentes and that they had three children: Pedro, Jose and Julio Miguel (who died as a child).
My mother, Zoila Villarreal Longoria, recalled on Aug. 20, 1999, that the mother of Jose Ruelas was named Calixta Villarreal and that Calixta was the sister of Concepcion Villarreal, who married Juana Longoria. She also recalled that Jose Ruelas' father was named Saturnino Fuentes and that Jose Ruelas had a brother named Pedro, who was murdered in 1930. She did not know how the Ruelas surname came into being.
From this, I have concluded that the Calixta Villarreal and Saturnino R. Fuentes listed in the Seabury Papers are indeed the parents of Jose Ruelas (perhaps Saturnino's middle initial "R" stands for Ruelas) and that the Encarnacion Villarreal listed by Seabury is really Concepcion Villarreal (it was quite common to confuse the name Concepcion with Encarnacion, especially if a person is called by a nickname such as "Tio Chono").

The 1880 Census listed all the family members shown here, except for Sabina Canuta who died as an infant, or small child. Also living in the household at that time were Juliana (Tamanz?), 38 years old, and her two daughters, Teofila (age 12) and Felicita (age 6). Juliana was a housekeeper for the family. The Census also shows that Felicita had small pox at that time. Children were: Macario VILLARREAL, Aniseto VILLARREAL, Sabina Canuta VILLARREAL, Jesus Maria VILLARREAL, Calixta VILLARREAL, Abraham VILLARREAL, Concepcion VILLARREAL.

Sabina Canuta VILLARREAL was born before April 2, 1863 in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She was baptized on April 2, 1863 in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Sabina Canuta is not listed in the Seabury Papers as a child of Sabas Villarreal and Isabel Ramirez. This could be because she had already died, perhaps as a young child, when Seabury did his research in the late 1800's and no one remembered her. Or, it could be an oversight. It is also possible that there were two different men named Sabas Villarreal, married to two different women with the same name of Isabel Ramirez, but I don't believe this is likely. The 1880 Census does not list her, indicating that she indeed had died prior to June 1880. Parents: Sabas VILLARREAL Garza and Isabel RAMIREZ.
