He was also one of the 13 original founders in 1774 of the "congregacion" named San Juan de los Esteros Hermosos about 20 miles upstream from the mouth of the Rio Grande River; the "congregacion" grew into the city known today as Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. His ranch was known as Soliseno.

Luis SOLIS Salazar was born about 1835. The Seabury Papers have Luis Solis marrying twice, first to Librada Washington and then to Juana Longoria, and also have him with a brother named Luis Maria Solis, for whom no additional information is provided. However, the Seabury information is incorrect.
I received an email in October 2003 from Leo Solis, a great-grandson of Luis Maria Solis, informing me that Luis Solis and Luis Maria Solis were twins, and that it was Luis Maria who married Juana Longoria (Leo has their marriage certificate). Leo believes that Luis Solis died at an early date because his widow Librada Washington subsequently married Hilario Solis and that they had a son name Simon. However, the evidence does not support that Luis and Luis Maria were twins.
The 1880 Census lists Luis Solis, 45 years old, with a wife named Librada. The next entry in the Census shows Luis Maria Solis, 35 years old, with a wife named Juana. Assuming the ages noted in the Census are accurate then the two are not twins. The fact that the two are listed one after the other in the Census suggests that they were closely related, but definitely not the same person. Parents: Antonio SOLIS and San Juana SALAZAR.

Luisa SOLIS (SALINAS). The 1900 Census shows a 2-year old Luisa Salinas as a granddaughter in the household of Pilar Bazan and Tomasa Alvarado. However, both daughters, Albina and , are shown as single at the time of the census. It would appear that Luisa was an illegitimate child of one of the daughters. A certificate of baptism from Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City shows a Luisa Salinas, born on January 12, 1898, as the daughter of J. M. Salinas and Albina Bazan. Some Bazan family members believe J. M. Salinas to be Jesus Maria Salinas.
My own mother recalled her mother Macaria Solis having a sister named Luisa. I am showing her here as Luisa Solis, rather than Luisa Salinas, since she was raised by her mother Albina Bazan married to Francisco Solis. Parents: J. M. SALINAS and Albina BAZAN Alvarado.

Falfurrias, Brooks County, TX, USA. She was buried in Transito Villarreal

Macario SOLIS was born about 1873. He died on December 7, 1922 in La Grulla, Starr County, TX, USA. The 1880 Census noted that he was ill with small pox. My aunt Irma Longoria Garcia remembers that his wife was named Juanita Villarreal (she was my aunt's "madrina de bautismo"). My aunt also recalls being told that he died from stomach poisoning resulting from eating sardines from a can which had been left opened for several hours.
