My mother, Zoila Villarreal Longoria, recalled on Aug. 20, 1999, that the mother of Jose Ruelas was named Calixta Villarreal and that Calixta was the sister of Concepcion Villarreal, who married Juana Longoria. She also recalled that Jose Ruelas' father was named Saturnino Fuentes and that Jose Ruelas had a brother named Pedro, who was murdered in 1930. She did not know how the Ruelas surname came into being.

The Seabury Papers show a Calixta Villarreal married to a Saturnino R. Fuentes and that they had three children named Pedro, Jose and Julio Miguel. Julio Miguel died as a child. Seabury also indicates that Calixta had a brother named Encarnacion (I believe Seabury is in error here and that the name should be Concepcion instead of Encarnacion). It seems almost conclusive that this Calixta Villarreal and Saturnino R. Fuentes are indeed the parents of Jose Ruelas. Saturnino's middle initial R in all probability stands for Ruelas. Parents: Sabas VILLARREAL Garza and Isabel RAMIREZ.

Romana's age was given as 16 in the 1880 Census. It appears to me that the 1880 Census reversed their ages and that Celso was 16 in 1880 and Romana was 14. He was buried in 1947 in Eugenio Longoria cemetery, Brooks County, TX, USA. Celso died on 31 January 1947 at the age of 82.

Another piece of evidence can be found in a Decree of Partition dated May 17,1924 and filed in the Brooks County Records. This decree relates to a legal matter over lands including those currently owned by the heirs of Concepcion Villarreal and Juana Longoria and the heirs of Jose Ruelas. The plaintiff is named as "Concepcion Villarreal Ramirez, et. al."; this indicates that Concepcion's mother's surname was Ramirez. In addition, the legal description of the lands make reference to "the Sabas Villarreal league" in the La Encantada grant, indicating a very probable family relationship between Concepcion and Sabas.
