Antonia JUAREZ was born about 1830. The 1860 Census showed her age as 30; the 1870 Census showed her age as 40. Antonia Juarez was the daughter of Geraldo Juarez and Maria Ysabel Caballero, from Porcion 79 in Camargo.

According to Jose V.Ruelas, Jr., she is buried in a cemetery at the Rancho Tepejuage in Brooks County. Those lands are within the La Encantada and Encino del Pozo land grants, once owned by her daughter's father-in-law Gregorio Villarreal, so it is entirely possible that the cemetery at the Rancho Tepejuage in Brooks County contains more of my maternal ancestors.

Mifflin KENEDY was born on June 8, 1818 in Downington, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He died on March 14, 1895. Mifflin Kenedy, a Quaker originally from Pennsylvania, became a business partner with Richard King in several ventures, among them a steamship company that operated on the Rio Grande River and provided the beginnings of both men's vast fortunes. During the War with Mexico (Mexico calls it the Invasion of Mexico) their steamships transported some of General Zachary Taylor's troops and supplies up the Rio Grande to Camargo. Both men then began acquiring, by both legal and questionable means, vast landholdings in South Texas and in 1860 became full partners in the Santa Gertrudis Ranch in what is now Kleberg County, Texas. Recognizing that they needed experienced cattlemen to run the day-to-day operations of the ranch, King went to Cruillas, Tamaulipas, Mexico, one of the original Escandon colonies, and recruited entire families to come north to live and work on the ranch (they and their descendants later came to be called "Kinenos", meaning King's men). And during the U.S. Civil War, although both Kenedy and King were born as Yankees, their steamships transported cotton down the Rio Grande and sold it to British merchants, thereby assisting the Confederate cause but, more importantly, creating huge profits for themselves. In 1868, Kenedy sold his interest in the partnership to King and the Santa Gertrudis Ranch became a part of what is now famously known as the King Ranch. Kenedy then purchased the Laureles Ranch and several other ranches, in Nueces County just south of Corpus Christi, but sold his holdings in 1882 to a Scottish syndicate and used the proceeds to purchase 400,000 acres in what was then the northern end of Cameron County. He named his new ranch the La Parra Ranch, after the wild grapevines that grew there. In 1911, several counties in South Texas were reorganized and the La Parra Ranch became part of the new county of Willacy. The county seat of Willacy County was Sarita, a small community named after a granddaughter of Mifflin Kenedy. In 1921, another county reorganization took place and a new county was carved out of the northern part of Willacy County where the La Parra Ranch was located; it was named Kenedy County after Mifflin Kenedy. Kenedy County today remains one of the least populous counties in Texas; Sarita, the county seat and only "town" in the county, has a population of less than 300.
