However, marriage investigation #23-18 names Isabel Garcia's mother as Juana Flores, sister of Isabel Flores. Therefore, it would appear Isabel Garcia's mother was named either Maria Juana Flores or Juana Maria Flores, and I have chosen to show her name as Maria Juana Flores de Valdes.

Given the names of her siblings, there is little doubt Maria Juana's parents were Capt. Rodrigo Flores de Valdes and Maria Isabel de Treviño Salazar. One of this latter couple's children was a Maria Flores who was married to Ignacio Martinez. It is possible this child named Maria Flores was the same person as the sibling I have chosen to show as Maria Juana Flores. But I couldn't find any clues to support the notion that they were the same person, thus reinforcing my decision to show them as two persons and naming the second Maria Juana Flores to distinguish her from the first Maria Flores. Maria Nicolasa FLORES^1755,1756 was born on 5 November 1778 in Camargo, Nuevo Santander, New Spain.^1757,1758 In the 1860 Census, there is a Nicolasa Longoria, 90 years old, at the home of Juan Longoria and his family. It seems without doubt that this would be Juan's mother. However, if her age was 90 then, she would have been about 115 years old when she died about 1885. Moreover, she would have been about 30 years old when she had her first child, and around 50 years old when she had her last. My guess is that her age in the 1860 Census is in error; it seems more likely that she was around 80 years old then. However, Alma Rosa Guzman Cruz says that Nicolasa was just visiting at Juan's home when the Census was taken, and that she did indeed live to be 115 years old. As further evidence of her longevity, Alma also claims that Adela Solis is currently 119 years old (as of August 2000) and still living in a nursing home.

In his last testament, Jose Antonio Flores named his children in the order I have listed here, omitting Manuel who died in 1785. Jose Antonio probably named his children from eldest to youngest; if this supposition is correct, then Maria Nicolasa was probably born around 1780 based on the fact that Maria Marcelina was baptized on May 4, 1777.

UPDATE: A copy of her baptismal record (found by Irma Longoria Cavazos) indicates that Maria Nicolasa was baptized on November 25, 1778 and that she was 20 days old at the time. The discovery of her baptismal record fixes her birthdate as November 5, 1778. Thus, she was about 106 years old when she died. She was baptized on 25 November 1778 in Camargo, Nuevo Santander, New Spain.¹⁷⁵⁸ Her godparents were Bartolo Flores and Maria Rita Vela. She died in 1885 at the age of 107 in La Grulla, Starr County, TX, USA. From marker on grave. Maria was buried in La Grulla, Starr County, TX, USA.²⁹⁸ She is buried in the same vault as her grandson Eugenio Longoria, her son Juan Longoria, her daughter-in-law Yrinea Villarreal Longoria and her granddaughter Yrinea Longoria Garcia.
