Inez de AYALA Zaldivar y Sosa. Marriage Investigation #31-8, page 135, notes that she is a sister of Maria de Ayala, who was married to Nicolas Lopez Prieto. Genealogical chart #4, page 327, in the Marriage Investigations book gives her name as Inez de Zaldivar Ayala y Sosa. General Diego de Ayala had three wives and a daughter named Maria de Ayala with each of the first two wives, Ana de Valle (whose daughter Maria de Ayala married Nicolas Lopez Prieto) and Margarita de Sosa (whose daughter Maria de Ayala married Juan de la Garza). I am assuming for now that Marriage Investigation #31-8 made no distinction between a half-sister and a full-sister and that Inez was a daughter of Diego's second wife Margarita de Sosa and thus only a half-sister of the Maria de Ayala who married Nicolas Lopez Prieto. Parents: General Diego de AYALA and Margarita de ZALDIVAR (aka Margarita de Sosa).

Capt. Joseph de AYALA was born in 1615 in Hacienda San Francisco (Apodaca), Nuevo Leon, New Spain. He died about 1695. In his testament, Jose de Ayala named his legitimate children with Ana de Benavides as being Josefa, Catalina, Maria Antonia, Jusepe [Joseph], Agustina, Micaela, Juana and Margarita and further notes that his wife is pregnant at that time (April 14, 1666). He further names Lorenzo as his natural son and Luisa as his natural daughter. Assuming that Ana de Benavides completed her pregnancy and safely delivered her child there would be 11 children of Joseph de Ayala: 9 legitimate and 2 natural. For reasons explained below, there is a possibility that there were really 10 legitimate children and 2 natural children.
In the Index to the Marriage Investigations of the Diocese of Guadalajara there are references to 8 children of Joseph de Ayala: Catalina, Maria, Nicolas, Josefa, Margarita, Antonia, Francisca and Luisa. The daughters named Maria and Antonia definitely appear to be two different persons so it may be that the transcription of Joseph de Ayala's testament may have a slight error and that there should be a comma between Maria and Antonia, designating two different persons.
If I make the assumption of a transcription error noted above, then the Testament and the Marriage Investigations are in agreement on the names of 6 children: Josefa, Catalina, Maria, Antonia, Margarita and Luisa. The Marriage Investigations have 2 names not mentioned in the Testament: Nicolas and Francisca. The Testament has 5 names not found in the Marriage Investigations: Joseph, Agustina, Micaela, Juana and Lorenzo. The Marriage Investigations indicate that Nicolas was a legitimate son so I am assuming he is the same person as the Joseph mentioned in the Testament. I am further assuming that Francisca was the child born after the Testament was made, since her name is not to be found in his Testament. Parents: Joseph de TREVINO and Leonor de AYALA (aka Leonor de Trevino).

Entry #24-5,on page 94 of IMIG (Index to the Marriage Investigations of the Diocese of Guadalajara) shows his name to be Francisco Martinez. I believe this should be Francisco Benavides and is the same person as shown in Entry #24-31, on page 99. Parents: Francisco BAEZ DE BENAVIDES and Isabel MARTINEZ Guajardo.
