I received an email in October 2003 from Leo Solis, a great-grandson of Luis Maria Solis, informing me that Luis Solis and Luis Maria Solis were twins, and that it was Luis Maria who married Juana Longoria (Leo has their marriage certificate). Leo believes that Luis Solis died at an early date because his widow Librada Washington subsequently married Hilario Solis and that they had a son name Simon. However, the evidence does not support that Luis and Luis Maria were twins.

The 1880 Census lists Luis Solis, 45 years old, with a wife named Librada. The next entry in the Census shows Luis Maria Solis, 35 years old, with a wife named Juana. Assuming the ages noted in the Census are accurate then the two are not twins. The fact that the two are listed one after the other in the Census suggests that they were closely related, but definitely not the same person. Parents: Antonio SOLIS and San Juana SALAZAR.

A certificate of baptism from Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City shows a Luisa Salinas, born on January 12, 1898, as the daughter of J. M. Salinas and Albina Bazan. Some Bazan family members believe J. M. Salinas to be Jesus Maria Salinas.

My own mother recalled her mother Macaria Solis having a sister named Luisa. I am showing her here as Luisa Solis, rather than Luisa Salinas, since she was raised by her mother Albina Bazan married to Francisco Solis. Parents: J. M. SALINAS and Albina BAZAN Alvarado.
